🕮 Alternate History

🕮 Speculative Horror

🕮 Monsters

Pros: Wildly imaginative and horrifyingly real, this is a book that takes real facts and history and morphs it into something new.  The characters, the pace, and the setting are all wonderful and Clark manages to pack an incredible amount of emotion into such a short book. The idea of Ku Klux Klan members turning into physical monsters is terrifying and Clark’s descriptions of the damage and horror they bring is scary enough to keep you up at night.  I LOVE that the main characters in the story are badass women, especially Maryse, and liked that they lived their lives the way they wanted to.

Cons: You know it’s a good book when you wish it was longer and that’s my only “”complaint.”  I would love to read more about Maryse hunting down racists.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
