🕮 Nostalgic

🕮 Heartwarming

🕮 Spooky

Pros: This book is about the moments we all have as children when we realize that life is scary and tough and that everything we think we know about the world may not be right. It’s about growing up in a small town and finding adventure in everything, even the smallest of moments. I loved how nostalgic this book feels without being cheesy and how much emotion Davidson manages to pack into so few words.  The characters in this book are great, especially Jake and Uncle Calvin, and everyone, no matter how small their role, plays a part in the story.  This is my kind of horror, spooky but not scary, and with an emotional pay off that works.

Cons: I really don’t think this should be cateregorized as horror because while there are scary moments, there isn’t anything terribly frightening.  Horror fans may pick up this book expecting to be scared and be disappointed instead.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
