Read-A-Likes:

What I Liked: When you title your book “A Cat Café Christmas,” there are certain expectations that come with that. Meaning…that book better be cute, and it better have a lot of cats in it.  I’m happy to report that this book lived up to those expectations.  This was a sweet yet surprisingly emotional book about 2 people dealing with their own personal issues and recognizing that they need to work on themselves before being ready to start a new relationship.  I loved that this wasn’t a “I was a mess until this person came into my life and changed it” story but rather a story that takes the time to show the reader the work Kara and Ben are doing on themselves so that when they eventually admit their attraction to each other, it feels like they’ve done the work to get to that point. I’m making it sound like this book is heavy but there are plenty of cat-related hijinks to keep the story light and entertaining. Christmas plays an integral part of the story and fits into the story nicely, especially with Ben’s storyline.

What I Didn’t Like: This book has a lot of scenes featuring Kara and Ben’s best friends, but I never felt like I got to know Charity and Schwartz that well which was disappointing.  I would read a future book with them as the main characters, but I wish we had found out more about them in this book.  There were also some questionable phrases used throughout the book including “big-boned.”  I thought that in 2022 we were done using terms like that to describe fat people. I also didn’t appreciate AT ALL that Kara thinks listening to audiobooks isn’t reading and that she looks down on Ben for thinking that.

Who Should Read It: If you are looking for a light, cat-centric holiday romance, I think you’ll like this book.

Review Wrap Up: This wasn’t a perfect romance and some of the characters said things and acted in ways that I didn’t like but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and I would recommend it to someone looking for a holiday romance. Bonus points for the adorable cat drawings that were at the top of each chapter, along with a description of the cat.
